Children’s Ministry

Welcome to the Children’s Ministry of First Presbyterian Church!

At First Presbyterian, our children’s ministry is designed to invite our children to come to Jesus and to support families as they carry out this task at home. Through Christ-centered worship, biblical teaching, service, fellowship, and fun, we pray that our children will:

    • grow in their knowledge and love for God
    • build a foundation of faith that will deepen throughout their lives
    • share God’s good news with others through personal evangelism
    • serve others in Jesus’ name

Join Us on Sunday Mornings!

Nursery is available for our youngest attendees.  We offer nursery care for babies and toddlers through three years old on Sunday mornings during our Sunday morning worship service at 9:30 a.m. through our small-group time/Sunday school hour (following worship) until 12 p.m. Our trained nursery staff and volunteers will take excellent care of your infants and toddlers while you attend church services.  With plenty of toys, books, crawling spaces, snacks, and friendly faces, your children will be back in your arms before they know it!  Toddlers who are two and three years old have the option of participating in a Sunday school lesson during nursery time.

Children’s Worship Bulletins

Each week, we offer age-appropriate worship bulletins for children to engage them in the scripture of the morning message during our worship service!  Children’s bulletins and crayons are available each week on a table just outside the sanctuary or print them here if you are viewing our worship service online.

Children’s Sunday School Class

Every Sunday morning downstairs in our children’s department, a group of amazing kids and the leaders who love to be with them gather to learn more about God, to worship Him together, and to do a fun project that helps us to glorify God through art. We meet at 10:45am in the large room on the right as soon as you get downstairs for breakfast, which usually includes some type of fruit, eggs/sausage/yogurt, and something sweet. At 11:00am we move into the downstairs chapel for worship, and our fantastic children’s music leaders teach, model, and guide our youngest worshippers in participating in musical worship through both singing and playing instruments. Then we transition into the middle room for interactive Bible study and an art project that allows us to engage Biblical truths in new ways. Recently we have created prayer journals featuring stickers of local and national leaders to help us focus on praying for our leaders, prayer bowls out of clay, and lots of paintings! Parents pick up their children at 12:00pm from this middle room.

Our Sunday School teachers have all been background-checked and trained to provide a safe and loving environment for everyone! Parents are asked to sign their children in using our computer system and then turn in the printed tag when picking them up to ensure everyone’s safety. The doors are locked after Sunday School starts to ensure safety, but just ring the bell and we’ll let you in!

Rock on Wednesdays Kidz Program
Mid-Week Discipleship

Our Wednesday night Discipleship program is designed to foster relationships within the family of God. To that end, children are invited to join the entire church family on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday nights of each month. On the 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights of each month, developmentally-appropriate children’s activities are provided.

Wednesday nights at First Presbyterian include several unique opportunities for children to participate in the life of the church.

First, our music department offers singing and musical opportunities for children of all age levels. These are as follows:

Musical Beginnings — babies and toddlers to 3 years old with Rachel Smith, Wednesdays from 4 – 4:45 pm. Contact Rachel Smith at rachsmith04@gmail.com to register.

Covenant Kids — children 4-6 years old with Vince Treadway, Wednesdays from 4 – 4:45 pm in the Handbell Room.

King’s Singers — children 7-14 years old with Vince Treadway, Wednesdays from 5 – 5:45 pm in the Choir Room.

Second, from 6:00pm-6:30pm, all children are invited to eat dinner with their church family during the Wednesday Fellowship Dinner in the Fellowship Hall. This is a fun time for children to connect with their peers and with people of the church of all ages!

Third, from 6:30pm-7:30pm, children are invited to participate in different activities each week.

First Wednesday – Church family game night. We play games together and then enjoy a short devotional from our pastor.

Second Wednesday – Breakout night. Children, women, and youth all have breakout sessions geared towards them. The children’s program includes a Bible story and usually a craft or game, as well as fellowship time.

Third Wednesday – Church family hymn sing and prayer meeting. This night features a worship band and communal hymn singing and our pastor leads us in a time of prayer together.

Fourth Wednesday – Adult Bible study is provided in the fellowship hall, while children and youth have breakout sessions geared towards them. This time is very similar to our Second Wednesday program for children, with Bible stories, games, crafts, and fellowship.

Fifth Wednesday – On the months that there is a fifth Wednesday, we encourage you to spend time with your family, perhaps even inviting some of your church family over! There is no dinner or activities other than the children’s choir opportunities mentioned above.
