Prayer Focus: Widows

Prayer Focus: Widows

THIS WEEKS PRAYER FOCUS: In Isaiah 1:17, the prophet implores the Israelites “learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” Widows (along with the fatherless, the foreigners, and the poor) were socially and economically vulnerable in ancient Israelite society. While many of the social and economic dynamics are different for us as 21st century Americans compared to ancient Israel, there are still very real vulnerabilities for widows and widowers, socially, economically, emotionally, etc. This week, pray for those widows and widowers in our church family. Pray that the Lord would grant them the ever present company of His Spirit and that He would give them godly fellowship with their brothers and sisters in Christ. Pray particularly for those widows and widowers who have little to no family in the area, as well as for those who are in assisted living facilities or nursing homes. Pray that He would call each of us to minister to a widowed sister or brother in Christ through continued prayer, visits, the sending of cards or letters, or other ministries of mercy or presence in their lives.
